Macaroni salad, cole slaw recalled for possible contamination

RALEIGH, NC – A West Virginia food company issued a recall Thursday October 26, 2006 for macaroni salad and cole slaw sold in North Carolina because of possible contamination. Ballard's Farm Sausage Inc. (based in Wayne W Va.), which recalled its egg salad earlier this month, said the products could be contaminated with a bacterium that can cause serious health problems.

Ballard's Farm Sausage Inc. (based in Wayne W Va.), which recalled its egg salad earlier this month, said the products could be contaminated with a bacterium that can cause serious health problems.
The bacterium also can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, and healthy individuals could experience short-term symptoms such as fever, severe headache and nausea, according to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The products were distributed in North Carolina, Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
